As planned, the number of assets will be finalized this week and the departure includes the allocation of Border Patrol agents to be stationed throughout the country.
The move, which is also expected to include the assistance of state National Guard units, comes at a time when the Justice Department is intensifying its crackdown on immigration-related crime in U.S. cities, according to media reports here.
This is the latest escalation in the administration’s efforts to overcome resource and personnel shortages to fulfill Trump’s campaign promise of mass deportations, CNN reported.
The federal government is also seeking the help of states in its efforts to arrest and detain undocumented immigrants.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), for example, is currently funded for an estimated 40,000 detention beds and has about 6,000 agents.
Separately, a coalition of 20 state attorneys general sued the Trump Administration, challenging requirements that tie federal funding to state participation in ongoing immigration enforcement efforts.
