Thailand investigates suspects for Money Laundering

Bangkok, May 14 (Prensa Latina) Nearly 1,200 suspects are being interrogated for their alleged involvement in money laundering during last year's Senate elections in Thailand, the Department of Special Investigation reported.

The spokesperson of the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) Pol Maj Woranan Srilam stated that they are conducting the search jointly with the Election Commission.

According to Srilam, the DSI handled allegations of money laundering and the operation of an illegal secret organization linked to the polls held in June 2024.

Pol Maj Woranan stated that they will examine the financial traces of money and assets acquired through transactions before, during, and after the last Senate vote at district, provincial, and national levels.

Those who supported the electoral fraud will also face charges under sections 5 and 9 of the Money Laundering Prevention Act, he added.

In addition, these suspects will be summoned to admit the charges and provide their explanations.

He also commented that the Election Commission is focusing its investigation on violations of the Senate’s electoral law and will determine whether the suspects should be disqualified.
