Vietnam warns of slight increase in Covid-19 cases in Vietnam

Hanoi, May 14 (Prensa Latina) The Vietnamese Ministry of Health warned here about a slight increase in the number of Covid-19 cases detected in the last three weeks, when an average of 20 cases were reported every seven days.

From early 2025 to date, 148 scattered cases of Covid-19 were reported nationwide in 27 provinces and cities, with no deaths reported, the health ministry said.

Most of those infected were located in Ho Chi Minh City with 34 cases, Hai Phong (21), Hanoi (19), Nghe An (17), Bac Ninh (14) Quang Ninh (6), Bac Giang and Binh Duong (4), it said.

Another 19 provinces and cities recorded one to two diagnosed, but no concentrated outbreaks, the source added, noting that globally the number of Covid-19 cases and deaths is on a downward trend.

Referring to the situation in neighboring Thailand, where 53,676 cases were reported from January 1, 2025 to May 10, 2025, he explained that this is attributable to the emergence of subvariant XBB.1.16 and the increase in mass gatherings on the occasion of the New Year vacations.

In Vietnam, the ministry said, Covid-19 is an endemic disease, so given the high level of interaction and travel during the holidays of last April 30 and May 1, the possibility of an increase in cases in the near future cannot be ruled out, although not a serious one.
