Jose Marti’s relevance highlighted in Bogota

Bogota, May 15 (Prensa Latina) The relevance of the ideas of Cuban National Hero Jose Marti was highlighted during a talk held at the Grand Lodge of Colombia, just days before the commemoration of the 130th anniversary of his killing in action in May 19, 1895.

During the ceremony, a wreath was laid at the bust of the Apostle, and later, a meeting took place at Francisco de Paula Santander Hall, bringing together members of the Cuban Solidarity Movement, members of the island’s diplomatic mission, academics, and university students.

Rogelio Martinez, Minister Counselor of the Cuban Embassy, remembered the founding of the Cuban Revolutionary Party in 1892 as one of the Maestro’s greatest achievements, seeking to contribute to the unity of all patriots in the fight for independence from Spain.

He extolled how Marti warned against the expansionist ambitions of US imperialism and emphasized that the Cuban Revolution used his ideals as a basis for founding a republic for all and for the welbeing of all.

Luis Fajardo, who heads the Human Rights Commission of the Masonic Grand Lodge of Colombia, spoke about the defense of the Masonic principles championed by the Apostle during his lifetime.

Meanwhile, Pablo Guadarrama, Professor Emeritus of the Marta Abreu Central University of Las Villas in Cuba, stood out how Marti was a staunch defender of the Latin Americanist cause, and that of human beings good by nature, that people are the true protagonists of history, as well as on the need to vindicate the indigenous cultures of the Americas.

The dean of the Faculty of Law and Social Sciences at the Pedagogical and Technological University of Colombia, Luis Bernardo Diaz, also recounted the links historians have found between Cuba’s National Hero and Freemasonry.
