Oli was speaking at the inaugural session of the Sagarmatha Sambaad (Mountain Dialogue), which will be held in this capital for three days under the theme “Climate Change, Mountains and the Future of Humanity”.
The head of government declared that the event is being held with the understanding that preserving the Himalayas means preserving the Earth, the oceans and humanity itself.
Our homes are being washed away by landslides. Floods and droughts come unexpectedly, but we stand strong. Our emissions are low, but our contributions to environmental conservation are significant. We hope that this dialogue will achieve a high level of moral clarity, strong intellectual courage and a firm shared vision for creating a beautiful future, he said.
As for Nepalese Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba she the hopes that the event would foster greater cooperation and political will, and result in strong measures to address climate change.
