Minister of the Presidency Maria Nela Prada confirmed the day before that the head of state will not be a candidate in the upcoming general elections, in order to preserve the unity of the national people’s bloc.
“The decision our president made, beyond being a difficult resolution, was made with the unity of the people’s bloc in mind, with unity, action, and votes against the right, in view of the upcoming elections,” the minister stated in statements to state media.
She considered the president not to be a man who will put personal electoral ambitions above the interests of the people.
Prada explained that in recent days the president held intense meetings with leaders of the Unity Pact and the National Directorate of the Movement Toward Socialism-Political Instrument for the Sovereignty of the Peoples (MAS-IPSP).
In its turn, former President Evo Morales stated that unity cannot be forged with those who betrayed the people and carried out a plan of persecution, hatred, racism, and discrimination against their own comrades and voters that allowed them to come to power.
“Unity will only be possible with honest comrades, loyal to the people, and firm in their revolutionary convictions who give their lives for the country and not for money,” the former president concluded.
