The march, called for next Thursday 22nd, will unite teaching and non-teaching staff and students in defense of the public university. In it, they will also demand the opening of the paritarias (negotiations of new labor contracts), as well as a recomposition of the budget destined to the university.
It responds to a joint call of the Staff Association of the University of Buenos Aires (Apuba) and the Association of Teachers of the University of Buenos Aires (Aduba) in view of the loss of purchasing power of salaries and the budget cut applied by the government of Javier Milei.
Emiliano Cagnacci, secretary general of Aduba, stated in a press release the day before, University Teachers’ Day in Argentina, that “our salary has lost 40 percent of its real value during the last 16 months”, and criticized the government policy of systematic defunding of public higher education.
As every May 15, we commemorate the University Teachers’ Day, a date that reminds us of the task developed by the faculty inside and outside the classroom, as well as the vindication of our rights as workers, Cagnacci continued.
