The second will be held in Africa, the organizing committee stated.
The event, organized by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Ministry of Environment (Miambiente), will define, among other points, the roadmap for the global economy and financial system to be aligned with the goals of decarbonization and building resilience.
According to the head of Miambiente, Juan Carlos Navarro, this meeting also marks the beginning of the broadest and most participatory public consultation on the draft of the new proposed Framework Law on Climate Change and Green Transition in the Central American country.
For his part, the National Director of Climate Change at Miambiente, Juan Monterrey, indicated that the most important issue at the Panamanian event is the implementation of the Paris Agreement.
According to the expert, this meeting should accelerate the translation into action of decisions adopted during the intergovernmental process and generate momentum toward COP30—which will be held in the Amazonian city of Belém (Brazil) next November—facilitating specific contributions to future meetings.
The UN specialized agency noted in its report that this type of forum builds on the solid foundations laid by previous Regional Climate Weeks, while recognizing the evolving needs of the climate agenda.
