Following the announcement by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of the objective of taking full control of the enclave, devastated by more than two years of bombardment and ground operations, the first secretary of the Socialist Party, Olivier Faure, demanded in X the end of words and the taking of concrete actions.
International law cannot be trampled on by Netanyahu’s extreme right, said the congressman, who called for the recognition of the Palestinian state by France, a possibility advanced by President Emmanuel Macron in view of a United Nations conference to be held in June, co-organized by Paris and Saudi Arabia.
Faure also called for an arms embargo on Israel and the suspension of the European Union (EU) association agreement with that country.
In turn, the national secretary of the French Communist Party, Fabien Roussel, denounced the genocide in Gaza, the forced displacement of civilians, and famine and ethnic cleansing.
The heads of state (of the West) know how to take strong measures against Vladimir Putin ( because of the war in Ukraine), but they remain silent in front of Netanyahu, he warned.
The communist leader believes that the double standard makes them accomplices of “these crimes against humanity”.
The leader of the ecologists, Marine Tondelier, also called on the EU and France to increase diplomatic pressure on Israel.
