The Italian prime minister first reiterated Italy’s support, along with European and Western partners, for Washington’s role in negotiations to try to end the war between Kiev and Moscow, and underscored the importance her government attaches to the achievement of an “immediate and unconditional” 30-day ceasefire.

Before, the Italian leader held a meeting in Rome on Sunday with US Vice President JD Vance, which was also attended by European Commission President Ursula Von der Leyen, where, according to observers, this topic was also discussed, although economic and trade issues dominated the debate.

Concerning the latter meeting, Meloni declared that it was necessary because “we know how fundamental are the relations between Europe and the United States.”
