Youssouf acknowledged this development as a step towards inclusive governance and expressed his hope that it will contribute significantly to the ongoing efforts to restore constitutional order and democratic governance in that African country.
He urged all Sudanese stakeholders to redouble actions towards a peaceful, civilian-led, and inclusive transition reflecting the people’s hopes. He reiterated the Commission’s willingness to support Khartoum in this regard, in partnership with its regional and international associates.
He expressed the continental organization’s firm commitment to the unity, sovereignty, and stability of Sudan, and the search for a lasting political solution to guarantees peace, development, and democratic governance for all citizens, the text concluded.
On Monday, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, president of the Sudanese Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC), appointed Idris as prime minister and two women as member representatives of Eastern and Central Sudan.
Idris is the first to hold the post since Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok resigned in January 2022.
