According to Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning, China and about 20 nations with similar positions launched the initiative in 2022 to set up this court. After finalizing the treaty negotiations, it was agreed to hold the signing ceremony on May 30.
High-level representatives of about 60 countries from Asia, Africa, Latin America, and Europe, and some 20 international organizations, including the United Nations, are expected to attend this event, that will be followed by an international forum on mediation, where issues such as resolving disputes between States and international commercial investment conflicts will be discussed.
Mao stated that mediation is one of the methods provided for in the United Nations Charter for resolving disputes.
The new institution will be the first intergovernmental body specialized in resolving international disputes through mediation.
