DR seeks to reduce digital gap and technological sovereignty

Santo Domingo, May 20 (Prensa Latina) The Dominican Telecommunications Institute (Indotel) is currently working on five pillars that will allow for the reduction of the digital gap, greater connectivity, security, technological sovereignty, and strategic alliances.

This was explained by President Luis Abinader during a press conference, where he announced the goal of bringing digital terrestrial television to all homes.

Sector authorities explained that the delivery of 940,000 converter boxes will be completed in three phases, of which 607,989 have already been provided in the Eastern and Northern regions.

Fiber optic internet connectivity is also planned for the Southern region, with 144,973 beneficiaries in the provinces of San Juan, Barahona, San José de Ocoa, Pedernales, Independencia, Azua, Bahoruco, San Cristóbal, and Elías Piña.

Regarding the connectivity of institutions serving the common good, there is a pilot project in pediatric telemedicine to offer specialized medical consultations to children in rural communities.
