Both Cuban artists have a permanent inspiration in the figure of the National Hero and this four-handed exhibition represents one of the many activities with which the 130th anniversary of the death in combat of the Apostle of the Independence of the island is commemorated throughout the country.

Martí is a constant motivation in my work because it is the way I found to pay tribute to him. By painting him and continuing to paint him I promote his thought, Bullaudy said.

With new works, almost finished, some practically giving them the final touch in the gallery, there are others that are several years old, but he continues to exhibit them.

In contrast, Fabelo works Marti’s iconography since 12 years ago and commented that he has the Master as a reference.

When there are difficult situations, the worst things in people can come to the surface; but when one refers to Martí, the opposite happens, everything good comes to the surface, love, sweetness, light, and that is why Martí is so important for us, the Cubans, the artist said.

I have the motto that we have to safeguard Martí’s work in the context in which it was written, as one of the ways to honor him. Do not decontextualize his ideas or cut them out, Fabelo added.

I see that each of Martí’s phrases are many paths, because he was a man of light. For me he is a safeguard against evils and he is everywhere, he concluded.
