“It is clear that the United States is interested in achieving results as soon as possible. And President Donald Trump has spoken about this, while Russian President Vladimir Putin shares this point of view,” the spokesman stated Tuesday.
Peskov also emphasized that the United States provided effective mediation to establish contacts between Russia and Ukraine, and this motivated Moscow and Kiev to reestablish them, and at this time those contacts are direct.
The official emphasized the importance of reestablishing ties at this stage and said that Moscow is aware of the Vatican’s proposal to host negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, but no decision has yet been made in this regard.
“Everyone is aware of this initiative from the Pope. In fact, there was a statement from the Vatican. And, naturally, the Russian side thanks everyone who is willing to contribute. However, no concrete decisions have yet been made regarding where possible future contacts will be held,” the spokesperson specified.
There are also no exact dates for the preparation of the memorandum on the agreement with Ukraine, although it is clear that “everyone wants to do it as soon as possible,” Peskov added.
The Kremlin spokesman also announced that the presidents of Russia and the United States discussed the topic of possible meetings between Putin and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky during their telephone conversation.
