The company announced that it successfully completed negotiations with the Norwegian firm Statkraft for the potential acquisition of a company dedicated to the development and operation of solar and wind assets; six solar project owners (614 MW); and three others for wind generation (750 MW).
The agreement is bound to compliance with conditions precedent and other legal requirements that, once executed, will allow Ecopetrol S.A. to acquire a portfolio of up to 1.3 gigawatts, the source said.
If this acquisition is closed, the company stated that it would advance its decarbonization and energy transition goals, surpassing the target of incorporating 900 MW of self-generation capacity with renewable energy sources, essential for the transformation of its energy matrix, in line with the 2040 Strategy.
This transaction leverages the generation of low-emission energy under competitive conditions for the Ecopetrol Group’s self-consumption, reducing energy purchases under bilateral contracts and exposure to stock market purchases, according to the entity’s report.
The projects are located in the departments of La Guajira, Sucre, Cordoba, Caldas, and Magdalena.
