In a statement, Revolucion Ciudadana legislators stated that this appointment “confirms what the country suspected,” arguing that Salazar “never acted independently, but rather at the service of the governments in office.”

According to the opposition bloc, Salazar came to office after making a pact with former President Lenin Moreno (2017-2021) and also allegedly acted in alliance with the governments of Guillermo Lasso (2021-2023) and the current president, Daniel Noboa, in exchange for a diplomatic post.

Revolucion Ciudadana has been one of the most critical forces of Salazar’s administration, whom they hold responsible for what they call a “political persecution machine” against this block.

According to their representatives, during his administration, evidence fabrication, judicial manipulation, and “rigged trials” were used to politically neutralize his organization.

Her time at the Attorney General’s Office was fraught with questions, controversy, accusations of bias, and fabricated cases and even allegations of plagiarism of her undergraduate thesis.

One of the former prosecutor’s most notorious cases was the Bribery case, a case criticized internationally for the convictions of former President Correa for “psychic influence” and other officials in his administration.

Diana Salazar managed to close investigations against former President Lasso, accused of embezzlement and organized crime, and secured a court order to bring former Vice President Jorge Glas to trial as part of the Manabi Reconstruction case.
