Russian air defense thwarts new wave of Ukrainian drone attacks

Moscow, May 22 (Prensa Latina) The air defense systems thwarted a new wave of Ukrainian drone attacks by shooting down 105 devices in the last day over the country's 10 regions, Russia's Defense Ministry informed on Thursday.

The military institution announced on its official Telegram channel that 35 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) were shot down over the Moscow region, while 14 were shot down over Oryol, 12 over Kursk, 11 over Belgorod, 10 over Tula, nine over Kaluga, seven over Voronezh, three over Smolensk, three over Lipetsk and one over Bryansk.

Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin, in turn, informed that an estimated 35 Ukrainian attack drones heading towards the Russian capital were shot down in the last few hours.

So far, the local government has not reported any material damage or casualties caused by the downed drone wreckage. Sobyanin noted that emergency teams are working in the areas where the fragments of the drones fell.

Meanwhile, Tula Governor Dmitry Milyayev published on his Telegram channel that two people suffered minor injuries from falling drone fragments, one of which crashed into the roof of an apartment building.

The Russian air transport agency, Rosaviatsia, reported that during the last day, temporary flight restrictions were imposed at several airports, including Moscow’s four major airports in Domodedovo, Sheremetyevo, Zhukovsky, and Vnukovo, and airports in Ivanovo and Tambov.
