The Service said that 30 fires were extinguished the day before, but 52 more active fire outbreaks were detected on an area of 697,824 hectares across the country, which means that a total of 742,846 hectares were covered by fire.
The most affected area remains the Transbaikalia region, located east of Lake Baikal, with 34 forest fires in an area of 729,729 hectares.
Since April 7, a regional emergency regime has been in force in the Transbaikalia forests due to natural fires.
On April 23, the Russian Federal Forestry Agency reported that the above-mentioned emergency regime was introduced in Transbaikalia with the aim of attracting additional forces and resources in extinguishing forest fires.
