The leaders of the PT bench in the Chamber of Deputies, Lindbergh Farias, and of the majority bloc, Arlindo Chinaglia, presented the requests to reject recent statements made by the US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio.
The chief of diplomacy confirmed on Wednesday at a hearing in the US House of Representatives that a sanction against De Moraes was “under consideration” and was a “strong possibility”.
Rubio warned of imposing measures against the minister as a result of his firm action against the coup plotters who tried to abolish democracy in Brazil, including former President Jair Bolsonaro.
A veto on his entry into the northern nation and the confiscation of any assets in US cities would also be on the list of provisions.
Farias’ request was submitted to the Constitution and Justice Committee, and Chinaglia’s to the Foreign Affairs and National Defense Committee.
Both legislators vehemently reject Rubio’s affirmations, who assured that Donald Trump’s government is studying the application of the Magnitsky Act, which allows freezing financial assets in the United States.
