Defendants Gilberto Portillo Jovel and Gilberto Ernesto Gutierrez are wanted by different US courts, reported Diario El Salvador, detailing the action taken by the country’s Attorney General’s Office.
Both criminals are wanted by US courts to face multiple charges related to serious sexual crimes committed against minors.
Portillo Jovel, accused by the state of New York of six charges of child sexual abuse committed between 2007 and 2009, escaped to El Salvador after being released on bail and evaded prosecution.
Meanwhile, Gutierrez is wanted by the Wicomico County District Court in Maryland for rape, sexual abuse, and 26 other charges committed between 2000 and 2003.
Authorities hope their American counterparts will return several gang leaders who fled to the United States or are facing legal proceedings in U.S. courts.
