The delegates, representing several African nations and international institutions attending the International Labor Organization (ILO)’s Regional Conference for Labor-based Practitioners, made the remarks after touring the Bole Lemi Special Economic Zone and the Ethiopian Construction Works Corporation.
They expressed particular admiration for the Bole Lemi Industrial Park, the first of its kind in the country, which started operations in 2014 and successfully attracted foreign investors, the Ethiopia News Agency informed.
They highlighted job creation, workers’ welfare, environmental management, simplification of the investment process, government support and subsidies, housing, schools, and day-care centers that benefit those who work there.
The ILO Conference was held at the African Union (AU) Conference Center on May 19-23 to promote knowledge sharing, explore innovative solutions, and develop viable strategies for job creation and sustainable development across Africa.
The main theme was “Resilient Communities and Healthy Environments: An Employment-Intensive Investment Program (EIIP) Approach.”
