Milei’s government put in check cultural centers in Argentina

Buenos Aires, May 23 (Prensa Latina) Javier Milei's government decreed the closure, merger and dissolution of cultural and historical institutions in Argentina as part of its policy of budget cuts and restructuring in the State, generating protests in the sector.

Such measures dictated by decree have consequences in a long list, including the National Theater Institute (INT) and historical centers as the main affected.

The National Museum of Fine Arts, the Kirchner Cultural Center (CCK) and Tecnópolis also suffer transformations, becoming what the government now calls “organizational units” of the Secretariat of Culture, which had already ceased to be a ministry.

The sector responded with assemblies and mobilizations. The workers grouped in the Asociación de Trabajadores del Estado de la Cultura (ATE Cultura) marched on Thursday afternoon to the Instituto Perón -dissolved- and then to the Ministry of Economy.

Today they are carrying out a protest in front of the dissolved Juan Domingo Perón Institute.

The Government picked up the echo of the results of the Buenos Aires election and carried out a strong transformation in the field of culture, which had been felt as a threat for a long time, and once again put in tension a sector that had been hit since the arrival of Milei to power, the newspaper Página12 emphasizes.
