“From the Puerto Rican Independence Party (PIP) we strongly demand the return of the electric service to the hands of the people of Puerto Rico because we firmly believe that access to electricity is a fundamental human right and an essential service in the lives of Puerto Ricans,” said the legislator, reacting to statements by Energy Czar Josué Colón, about the cancellation of the LUMA Energy contract during the course of this year.
She said that repeating the same LUMA Energy contracting process, which cannot be an option, as you may recall was approved in less than an hour, in dark rooms and through a pusillanimous and extremely deficient legislative process.
“The country is watching them,” Gutiérrez warned, claiming that the people are clear that they were deceived when the bipartisan, New Progressive Party (NPP) and Popular Democratic Party (PDP), launched the privatization project, and LUMA Energy as the all-powerful magic wand that would fix the deficiencies of the state-owned Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority (PREPA).
