Al Mayadeen awards Ammar Al-Hamoud with the Farah Omar scholarship

Beirut, May 26 (Prensa Latina) The Lebanese-based pan-Arab news network Al Mayadeen awarded the first Farah Omar Scholarship to student Ammar Al-Hamoud to follow higher education at the University of Havana, Cuba.

The initiative pays tribute to Lebanese journalist Farah Omar, who was killed along with her colleagues Rabih Maamari and Hussein Aqil, following a direct airstrike carried out by Israeli forces in the city of Tayr Harfa in the south of the country on November 21, 2023.

The scholarship announcement took place during a ceremony in memory of the martyrs, in the presence of Al Mayadeen TV channel president Ghassan Ben Jeddou.

According to the director, the scholarship was launched this year with the enrollment of the first student at the prestigious University of Havana, and will continue annually to immortalize Farah’s name in the fields of education and media, and serve as a source of inspiration for future generations.

In his opening remarks, Al-Hamoud reaffirmed his commitment to never back down in the fight for Al Mayadeen’s cause in defense of the children of Gaza and the Palestinian cause.

The student expressed his gratitude to Professor Ghassan, “father and teacher, and to Cuba, which, despite the unjust and brutal blockade and the huge difficulties it is facing, remains at the forefront of countries that support the Palestinian cause, from its president to the last citizen of its land.”

The Farah Omar Communications Scholarship confirms that the occupation’s attempts to suppress voice and image will not succeed, and the young journalist’s name will remain as a shining symbol in the history of resistance media, the Beirut-based multiplatform reported.
