Armenian Prime Minister rules out war with Azerbaijan

Yerevan, May 26 (Prensa Latina) Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan ruled out the possibility of a war between his country and Azerbaijan, despite internal and external provocations.

“We are ready to continue consultations with Azerbaijan on how to approach the signing of a peace treaty and other documents that will completely change the situation and the fate of the peoples of our region. We will do everything possible on our part,” the head of government emphasized at the Yerevan International Dialogue Forum.

Pashinyan explained to those present that, despite all the disputes, provocations, and so on, there will be no war between Yerevan and Baku. “There will be peace, and this seems very obvious to me,” he said.

The Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated on March 13th that the Peace Treaty with Azerbaijan was agreed upon by both parties, and the Armenians are ready to discuss proposals regarding the place and conditions of signing the document.

Armenian Foreign Ministry spokesman Aikha Gadzhizade stated that the conclusion of the agreement is possible if several conditions are met, including an end to shelling along the border and amendments to the national constitution that exclude territorial claims against Baku.

Furthermore, Azerbaijan, in turn, insisted on the official abolition of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Minsk Group, which the Azerbaijani government considers an outdated structure.

The main political forces of the Armenian opposition described the preparation of the document as a “capitulation of the Pashinyan regime.” However, Armenia and Azerbaijan have yet to publish a consensual version of the treaty.
