Opinions regarding the labor reform are divided, with congressmen from opposition parties such as Cambio Radical and Centro Democrático not supporting either option.
If it does not pass Congress before June 20, the bill will fail due to lack of processing.
The Historical Pact issued a statement on Monday outlining the points that the proposal should not lack: “A true labor reform must guarantee the mandatory hiring of people with disabilities in large companies, progressively increase paternity leave, and restore the agricultural contract to protect more than 900,000 day laborers who are in absolute vulnerability,” it explained.
The group also believed that, with Congress closing the door on fair labor reform, a referendum is the only remaining option, referring to President Gustavo Petro’s proposal to hold a public vote so that citizens can directly decide on issues related to labor rights.
Furthermore, the faction called on union, social, and political organizations, and the general public, to rally around the cause “that seeks labor justice for all.”
