Malaysian PM considers 2nd ASEAN-GCC Summit a milestone

Kuala Lumpur, May 27 (Prensa Latina) Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim considered on Tuesday that the holding of the 2nd ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations)-GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) Summit an extraordinary diplomatic milestone.

The meeting, held in this capital, aims to further deepen political, economic, and strategic ties between the two regions.

Anwar Ibrahim highlighted the presence of ASEAN leaders along with representatives of the most dynamic GCC countries in the region as testimony to the growing mutual trust and friendship between the two blocs.

In 2025 Malaysia took on the presidency of ASEAN, a 57-year-old regional bloc also made up of Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Brunei, and Myanmar.

The Kuala Lumpur Convention Center hosted the event, after which the first ASEAN-GCC-China Summit began.

Anwar Ibrahim assured that the theme of Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship 2025, “Inclusion and Sustainability,” reflects the aspiration for equitable, people-centered, and forward-looking growth, values that align closely with those of ASEAN and the GCC.
