According to information previously released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting will be a high-level political forum for dialogue on the challenges and opportunities facing the region in terms of sustainable development and climate change.
The summit will allow the foreign ministers of the CARICOM member countries and Colombia to send a message about the importance of the 2030 Biodiversity Plan, environmental risk management, the implementation of the circular economy, and technical cooperation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in Cartagena.
The event seeks to strengthen political, economic, social, and cultural ties and enhance Colombia’s presence in the subregion for the adoption of agreements on issues of mutual interest, as well as to generate a room for discussion on cooperation issues, the establishment of political dialogue on matters such as biodiversity, damage assessment and analysis of post-disaster environmental needs, and the circular economy, among other topics.
The summit will also promote the need of strengthening regional coordination to face the challenges posed by the global climate crisis, biodiversity loss, and pollution.
The 30th Ordinary Meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS) will also take place on Thursday in Cartagena. Finally, on Friday the 30th, the Summit of Heads of State and Government of the ACS member states, countries, and territories will be held in the city of Montería.
