The proposal was presented by the Senate’s president, Angélica Lozano, after the proposal presented by Senator Aída Avella of the Historic Pact failed due to lack of support.
The previous proposal sought to restore some of the points of the original bill presented by the government. However, the approved text stipulates that it begin at 7:00 p.m., but retained the 100% Sunday and holiday surcharge in its articles. However, Labor Minister Antonio Sanguino stated that the government will insist on the approval of a night shift that begins at 6 p.m. instead of 7 p.m., as desired by the labor unions.
President Gustavo Petro commented that even if a good reform is approved, the call for a referendum, triggered by the obstacles faced in the legislature over the labor reform, remains in place.
“The Senate plenary session remains, the conciliation process remains, and we already know they’re playing tricks on us, especially when things are passed into the hands of the Senate President (Efraín Cepeda),” Petro stated.
