The Ecuadorian Foreign Ministry recommended its citizens not to travel to Venezuela “due to the serious risk of arbitrary detentions, lack of guarantees for due process, and the right to defense.” It also recalled the “unilateral decision of the Venezuelan government to request the withdrawal of Ecuadorian consular personnel in October 2024.”
The official statement indicates that this situation “impedes the provision of assistance to Ecuadorians residing or in transit in Venezuela and is aggravated by the refusal of the Venezuelan authorities to provide information on detained Ecuadorians.”
The message also urged Ecuadorian citizens to stay informed through official channels and reiterated “its commitment to protecting the rights and well-being of Ecuadorians abroad.”
Mockingly, Gil wrote last night on his Telegram account: “Hahaha, what a ridiculous thing coming from a groveling, sycophantic government of the Americans… “Go Ecuador!” he added.
Ecuador published its statement hours after the Venezuelan Foreign Minister responded to a similar statement issued by the U.S. State Department, in which it issued a “security alert” to U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents not to travel to Venezuela.
In response, the Bolivarian government issued a travel alert for all its citizens and advised them against any travel to the U.S., as Venezuelans in the United States are victims of a systematic pattern of human rights violations, including arbitrary detention, separation from their families, and transfer to concentration camps in third countries, Gil indicated.
