“The bill establishes that resources will be allocated for the prevention, protection, and defense actions against the risk of losses in agricultural production due to adverse climatic or health events,” an excerpt from the bill states.
Brasil has recorded 170 cases of avian flu, most of them in wild birds and only one on a commercial farm, in the municipality of Montenegro, in Rio Grande do Sul state.
The investigations have affected producers due to egg discards and the killing of birds, as in Minas Gerais, where the state government announced the disposal of 450 tons of fertile eggs originating in Rio Grande do Sul.
The measure was adopted as a preventative and was repeated in other states, likr the southern state of Paraná, where the government announced the destruction of 10 million eggs, the equivalent of about 600 tons.
The other bill related to avian flu has the support of parliamentarians, but its vote was postponed and there is no date yet for its analysis.
Authorities assure that avian flu cases are under control in the country and that the results can be considered optimistic for the resumption of exports among the 24 countries that suspended the purchase of Brazilian chicken.
