In the Parliament session they will address President Andrzej Duda’s proposal: the four percent defense spending. “You are already familiar with this topic,” Holownia stated.
He said that the Polish parliament does not freeze any law, regardless of its origin.
Poland is implementing the Eastern Shield initiative on the border with Russia and Belarus, with an allocation of $2.5 billions for the period 2024-2028.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, the government intends to create a comprehensive defensive infrastructure on the eastern flank of the Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) to counter what are considered threats emanating from Moscow and Minsk.
Regarding this matter, Russia has for years denounced the expansion of the Atlantic alliance toward Russian borders, the buildup of allied forces in Europe, the continued increase in military spending within the bloc, and its growing involvement in the Ukrainian conflict, while NATO justifies these actions with a supposed containment of Russia.
The Russian Foreign Ministry previously stated that Russia remains open to maintaining dialogue with NATO, but only on an equal footing, and also noted that the West must abandon its policy of militarizing the European continent.
