Death toll rises to 12 due to floods in India

New Delhi, Jun 4 (Prensa Latina) The flood situation in the northeastern state of Assam remains serious, with 257,000 people affected in 21 districts, and a death toll that rose to 12 in that territory.

According to authorities, as of Tuesday night, six people had lost their lives in flood-related incidents across the state in the last 24 hours.

The deaths, including that of a child, were reported from Hailakandi, Sribhumi, Morigaon, Cachar, Sonitpur and Tinsukia districts.

More than 94,000 people were affected in Barak valley alone in Sribhumi district.

Asamm State Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited Barak valley and relief camps sheltering the affected people in its main town Silchar.
