Colombian President asks to modernize Army weapons

Bogota, Jun 5 (Prensa Latina) The President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, said today that he asked to modernize all the Army's armament and adjust it to the type of conflict existing in the country.

The president wrote in his social network account X that speed and depth are fundamental in this matter, and referred to the need to introduce new aerospace technologies, quantum mathematics, mastery of rivers, total control of ports and modern inventory control with blockchain.

According to the head of state, the improvements would be made through the mechanism of future vigencias futuras, a budgetary tool that allows public entities to assume commitments and obligations charged to budgets of years subsequent to the current one.

The governor’s announcement comes after a warning sent by the Comptroller’s Office to the commander of the National Army was made public, expressing concerns about artifacts that have already exceeded their useful life and are still in military units.

The warning of the control entity is added to the denunciation made by Petro himself, who pointed out a year ago about the loss of one million ammunition in Tolemaida, in the central department of Cundinamarca and in the northern department of La Guajira.
