Europe seeks greater resilience to water scarcity

Copenhagen, June 5 (Prensa Latina) A recently published report by the European Environment Agency (EEA) states that saving water is increasingly urgent in the region.

According to the report, reducing losses and leaks and improving water efficiency through technical and operational measures will significantly increase water savings.

The report notes that southern Europe and densely populated areas will be particularly affected by water scarcity.

It warns that overexploitation of freshwater resources persists in certain critical areas and is expected to worsen in the future.

It also considers that significant savings of water can be achieved in key economic sectors through new measures that will be essential to increasing the European Union’s water resilience.

The EEA report, published this Wednesday under the title “Saving Water for a Water-Resilient Europe,” states that economic sectors with the highest levels of water withdrawal also have the potential to save more of this important resource.

Key areas included here are electricity generation, agriculture, public water supply, and manufacturing.

The aforementioned report complements the European Commission’s Water Resilience Strategy, also published on June 4.
