Zakharova reiterated in a Foreign Ministry statement that her country was confident the renewed UNSC membership would work more effectively and promptly reduce disagreements among nations.
The spokeswoman also urged the newly elected members of the Council to work to reduce disagreements, facilitate search for “common denominators,” promote a unifying agenda, and listen to the opinions of of all colleagues.
The diplomat stressed that, with such an approach, there will be hope of restoring the UNSC’s effectiveness, “which plays an essential role in efforts to establish a truly just, and egalitarian polycentric world order.”
She underscored, “Russia is ready to cooperate constructively with the new non-permanent members of the UNSC.”
The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) elected on Tuesday the Democratic Republic of Congo, Liberia, Bahrain, Colombia, and Latvia as non-permanent members of the Security Council for 2026-2027.
