Syria is open to dialogue and investment, and is also willing to collaborate with EU institutions and its member states, the Foreign Minister said in a joint press conference with Schwicz after concluding their talks.

He considered that the Syrian government’s participation for the first time in a conference organized by the European bloc on Syria, represents a change in the relationship between the two parties.

Regarding the circumstances, the European Commissioner described the current phase in Syria as a “crucial moment” after 14 years of war and affirmed that the European Union has lifted all sanctions imposed on Syria to support reconstruction efforts.

Dubravka revealed the allocation of €175 million as part of a new aid package to support the Syrian people and reaffirmed her commitment to providing support in the areas of health, education, technology, agriculture, and human rights.

The bloc will work to encourage European companies to invest in Syria and provide development services, the European Commissioner said.

She added that the EU has provided nearly $34 billion in aid to the Syrian people since 2011 and remains committed to continuing to do so.
