Cuba honors 100 years of Vietnamese revolutionary press

Hanoi, Jun 6 (Prensa Latina) "Five outstanding Vietnamese professionals were awarded the Félix Elmusa Distinction today by the Cuban Journalists' Union (UPEC), as part of the celebrations for the centenary of Vietnam's revolutionary press."

The Cuban Revolution has the legitimate pride of having been closely identified with the fundamental moments of the Vietnamese people’s resistance struggle, Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam Rogelio Polanco underscored at the ceremony.

Cuba made all its media resources available to the Vietnamese cause to disseminate the truth and raise awareness of the imperialist genocide, he later emphasized, and recalled that Prensa Latina and Radio Habana Cuba became the voices par excellence of the resistance’s achievements.

The ambassador stressed that Cuban universities received Vietnamese students in those years and, once graduated, joined the group of professionals who fostered the media editorial offices and accomplished the colossal feat of disseminating the truth and counteracting imperialism’s media hegemony.

“Thanks to the close collaboration of media professionals from both countries, our people were able to follow the combative feats of the Vietnamese nation on a daily basis,” he stated.

The Cuban ambassador also pointed out that the occasion was propitious for paying tribute to heroes of words and images, such as war correspondents Marta Rojas and Raul Valdes Vivo, filmmakers Santiago Alvarez and Jose Massip, cameraman Ivan Napoles, and designer Rene Mederos.

By placing the Felix Elmusa Medal on five Vietnamese press professionals, we reward their willingness to strengthen the brotherhood between Cuba and Vietnam, forged by Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro and President Ho Chi Minh, and granted by several generations of leaders and the most humble representatives of our peoples, he remarked.

In turn, Le Quoc Minh, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party (CPV) and president of the Vietnam Journalists Association, praised the holding of this meeting with those who built bridges between professionals in the sector from both countries, and whom he said are united by unbreakable affection.
