Germany Acknowledges Long-Term Dependence on the US

Berlin, June 6 (Prensa Latina)"German Chancellor Friedrich Merz acknowledged that Germany will 'continue to depend on the United States for a long time—whether we like it or not,' as reported by Berliner Morgen-Zeitung.

He made the remarks during his speech at the Family Business Day conference where he also expressed that many people have supposedly missed Germany’s leadership in recent years, and that this did not only occur in the last three years [of the other German government].

According to Merz, Germany unification would have been impossible if it had not taken advantage of the unconditional trust of its European neighbors and partners, the USA and former Soviet Union.

In his opinion, Germany must now earn this trust on the international arena.

Merz returned from Washington on June 6, where he met with US President Donald Trump on June 5.

At the meeting, the leaders discussed bilateral relations and the international agenda, including the conflict in Ukraine, the situation in the Middle East and Washington’s trade policy.
