43 forest fires extinguished in Russian Siberia

Moscow, Jun 7 (Prensa Latina) Russian firefighters and forestry services extinguished 43 fires in an area of 40,236 hectares during the last day, the Air Forest Protection Service (Avialesoojrana) reported.

According to the note of Avialesoojrana during the last day, the anti-fire services also detected 70 active fire outbreaks on an area of 788,937 hectares throughout the country.

The most affected area remains the Transbaikalia region, located east of Lake Baikal, with 29 forest fires on an area of 681,637 hectares.

Since April 7, a regional emergency regime has been in force in Transbaikalia’s forests due to natural fires caused by rising temperatures in the summer months and low rainfall.

On April 23, the Russian Federal Forestry Agency (Rosleskhoz) reported that a federal emergency regime was introduced in Transbaikalia to attract additional forces and resources to extinguish fires.
