The most affected area remains the Transbaikalia region, located east of Lake Baikal, with 29 forest fires on an area of 681,637 hectares.
Since April 7, a regional emergency regime has been in force in Transbaikalia’s forests due to natural fires caused by rising temperatures in the summer months and low rainfall.
On April 23, the Russian Federal Forestry Agency (Rosleskhoz) reported that a federal emergency regime was introduced in Transbaikalia to attract additional forces and resources to extinguish fires.
