According to the latest data from ILOSTAT, belonging to the ILO, coverage reflects an increase of 45 percentage points in the last decade; in terms of the number of beneficiaries, India ranks second globally, providing social protection to around 940 million citizens. Recognizing these efforts, the ILO highlighted India’s achievement and officially published on its panel that more than 940 million people are now covered by at least one social protection benefit.
ILO Director-General Gilbert Houngbo praised India’s social welfare policies focused on the poor and working class under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
