The evening will feature Gerardo Alfonso, whose song “Son los sueños todavía” (Dreams Are Still Alive) is a reflection on the persistence of Che’s ideals (1928-1967) and the importance of keeping hope and social justice alive.
The event will take place at 5:00 p.m. local time at the Hurón Azul venue, located in the gardens of the UNEAC, to pay tribute to the Argentine doctor, born in the city of Rosario, who was also one of the ideological leaders and commanders of the Cuban Revolution.
According to the author of the emblematic song “Son los sueños todavía” (Dreams are still alive), which has become an anthem and song of hope, “it is not a mournful piece nor was it conceived to be performed by a lone troubadour, but rather to be shared by several voices.”
The exchange will bring together other cultivators of Cuban trova, such as Marta Campos, Silvio Alejandro Rodríguez, Heidi Igualada, Alejandro Valdés, and Diego Cano, who will accompany the session with their singing and commitment to singer-songwriting.
“Trova sin traba” has established itself as a space for reflection and artistic expression, in which music becomes a vehicle for memory and thought.
Ernesto Che Guevara was born on June 14, although the activities for the anniversary began earlier to honor the guerrilla fighter who was killed in La Higuera, Santa Cruz, Bolivia.
