Joint initiative seeks to improve digital access in Cuba

Havana, Jun 12 (Prensa Latina) Young university students are analyzing with members of the Cuban Telecommunications Company (Etecsa) various technological solutions to benefit the population and Internet connectivity.

The multidisciplinary group created between the Federation of University Students (FEU) and Etecsa aims to propose ideas and participate in the improvement of the recent measures announced by the entity, which raised several concerns.

The initiative, inaugurated the day before, seeks to provide a legitimate space for meetings between the student community of the island’s different universities and representatives of the Communist Party of Cuba, the Government and the telecommunications company, the Cuban News Agency reported.

According to FEU national vice-president Litza González, this kind of spaces “is an irrefutable proof that the university and youth community has been heard, their opinions and proposals are taken into account, in a dialogue that has shown a superior political maturity, and the maxim that to debate is not to negotiate principles”.

Gonzalez called on university students to preserve unity, the main weapon in the face of all adversities to confront those who seek to bend the national project, he said.

The multidisciplinary group will discuss in the coming days which initiatives are feasible and what are the requirements for their implementation.
