A Moncloa Palace release applauded the initiative, announced by Pedro Sanchez, President of the Government, on May 7, and demands the fulfillment of legal and humanitarian obligations concerning the conflict in the coastal enclave.
The source indicated that during an emergency special session meeting of the General Assembly, the initiative was approved with 149 votes in favor and 12 against.
During the presentation of the resolution, Spain’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Hector Gomez, stressed that “sending a strong message about Gaza is urgent.”
Gomez also noted that the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) “remains the backbone of the humanitarian response in the Gaza Strip.”
