Several media reported this morning that a unit of anti-riot police officers carried out an operation at 02:00 local time to evict the group that was camping in front of the building where the former president resides and would serve house arrest if granted.
That place became in the last days what some leaders of Kirchnerist organizations call the “Corner of the Resistance” in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Constitución, in allusion to the support that thousands of Argentines have expressed there for Cristina.
The ex-governor expects to go there next Wednesday to the Comodoro Py courts to know the final fate of her sentence.
According to the digital service Infobae, the expelling procedure was carried out without incidents or repression, although videos posted on the web show agents with shields and batons advancing on the people camped there, destroying their small tents, removing flags and banners, and verbal confrontation between the sides can be heard.
Police spokespersons told Infobae that by 03:00 local time there was no one left in the area and no arrests were made during the operation, which the police headquarters justified by claiming that it was motivated by the need to “free the public space” and was carried out in a surprise manner to avoid disturbances.
