Blaze Metreveli will become the 18th director in the history of the organization and the first woman to hold this position, the British president wrote in a statement published on the government’s website.
It is noted that Metreveli will replace Richard Moore, who will leave the post in the fall of 2025.
Previously, several people applied for the post of MI6 director, including former British ambassador to China Barbara Woodward.
After interviews, most of the candidates were eliminated and only three women remained on the list, two of whom were MI6 officers, the media outlet reported last May.
