Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty called for de-escalation and dialogue in separate phone calls with his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi, and the United States special envoy to the region, Steve Witkoff, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry reported in a statement.
He also stressed the urgent need for coordinated efforts to contain the crises through negotiations and warned that continued hostilities could lead to regional instability with far-reaching consequences.
The minister reiterated Cairo’s call for an immediate ceasefire and a return to negotiations as the only sustainable path to resolving the disputes.
Military solutions are not viable; increased violence would only bring this region closer to total chaos, the Egyptian Foreign Minister stated.
Badr Abdelatty also held telephone conversations on the issue with his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov, and Irish counterpart, Simon Harris.
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry emphasized that the calls focused on the risk of the conflict spreading and the urgent need to defuse hostilities.
