There is complete political consensus in India on this matter, the Indian Prime Minister stated in a telephone conversation of approximately 35 minutes with the US president at the latter’s suggestion, according to an official statement.
According to government sources, Trump expressed his condolences to Modi for the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22 and expressed his support in the fight against terrorism in the first exchange between the two dignitaries since the incident that claimed the lives of 26 people.
The Prime Minister spoke in detail about Operation Sindoor, carried out by India against designated terrorist targets in Pakistan, a country that New Delhi indirectly blamed for the attack on Indian territory.
Modi clearly communicated to President Trump that while there was an exchange with Vice President JD Vance, at no point was there any discussion, at any level, of India-US cooperation, a trade agreement, or any proposal for mediation by Washington.
The negotiations to cease military action were conducted directly between India and Pakistan through existing channels of communication between the two armed forces and were initiated at Pakistan’s request, he reiterated.
However, Modi took the opportunity to firmly affirm that India does not and will never accept US mediation and that there is a complete national political consensus on the matter.
