More Equality Program created to combat racism in Brazil

Brasilia, June 18 (Prensa Latina) The federal government created the More Equality Program to combat racism and promote ethnic parity in Brazil, in a decree signed by interim President Geraldo Alckmin and Minister Anielle Franco.

The initiative, which will be implemented by the Ministry of Racial Equality, headed by Franco, includes the construction of the so-called Equality Houses.

This plan seeks to strengthen the National System for the Promotion of Racial Equality (Sinapir) and coordinate actions between the government and civil society to guarantee the rights of the Black population, quilombolas (Afro-Brazilians), and traditional communities.

It also promotes public policies focused on this aspiration.

One of the pillars of the project is the creation of facilities that will function as spaces for shelter and legal, psychological, and social support for victims of racism.

These centers will also work to promote Afro-Brazilian culture, productive inclusion, and strengthen community ties.

The centers will have areas of activity that include racial justice, with support for victims of hate crimes, and productive inclusion, with a focus on young Black women and adult women.

Also, culture and education, with actions targeting Afro-Brazilian identity, community coexistence, and a federative pact to expand cooperation between the Union, states, and municipalities.

The Ministry has yet to determine which territories are prioritized for the implementation of the units.
